United Daily: Ronaldo Just Wants To Play, Carrick is Boring, Newcastle’s Pride is Hurt
Cristiano Ronaldo - “I want to learn more and play more.”
Some of you may have been wondering, “When is Cristiano Ronaldo going to get rested?” With only two fit strikers, Ronaldo has not only been our first team winger, but our second team striker as well. Barely being rested, one might wonder if the Portuguese winger is exhausted? Apparently not. Today, Ronaldo was publicly advocating that he should not be rested. Fergie rested Ronaldo for five days during the same period last year, but CR7 is insistent that he plays every day he can. Ronaldo had this to say:
“This time last season the boss gave me a break for four or five days. But people who know me will know that all I want to do is play. I just want to play, score goals, make assists and do good things for the team.
“I’m enjoying staying here in Manchester. There isn’t much sun at the moment, but it’s not a problem. The weather is not the most important thing.
“I had a great season in 2007 and played really well. I scored a lot of goals, made a few goals and it was a wonderful season for me. But this season I’m at the same level. I’ve scored quite a few goals, played at a good level and the important thing is to keep going like that. I want to learn more and play more. I want to score as many goals as I can. I have many opportunities to score because my team-mates make good passes and because there are so many games, not just the Premier League but Champions League and FA Cup.”
Michael Carrick Is Talking Crazy
Michael Carrick was unhinged. In an interview with MUTV, Carrick was really going out on limbs with his projections for this season:
“It is nice now to be sitting on top of the pile. Hopefully we can stay there, but that’s up to us. That’s the hard part. We managed to do it last season and hopefully we can do it again.”
“I am sure we will if we keep playing like that. We want to get the momentum again and hopefully stay there for the rest of the season.”
Doesn’t he know that some of us have blogs to do that are dependent upon quotes of some intrigue to fill their pages. If you listen closely you can actually hear the reporter snoring.
(Update: Republik of Mancunia has written a pretty hilarious piece about the overwhelming boredom that is Michael Carrick titled, “Wow Michael Carrick Likes The Sound of His Own Voice.”)
Hunt for Huntelaar getting more competitive
Apparently there are many suitors for the services of Ajax striker Klas-Jan Huntelaar. In addition to United, now Juventus, Liverpool and Manchester City are rumored to be in pursuit of the Holland International. Goal.com says its money is on Manchester City, stating that:
“Although Liverpool and Manchester United would probably be Huntelaar’s prefereed choice of destination, it is more likely that Manchester City will snare the player. Benitez has already had the purse strings at Merseyside tightened, as has Ranieri at Juventus. Meanwhile, Ferguson has gone on record to state that he isn’t interested in bringing anyone in this month.”
Newcastle’s Pride is Hurt
Well I should say so. A 6-0 thumping than ended in Alan Smith’s straight red card for dissent will make you question a few things. Caretaker boss Nigel Pearson put words to these feelings when he said that the loss at Old Trafford, “hurt our professional pride.” Here’s to leaving every team we face as confused, embarrassed and “hurt” as Newcastle. I doubt, however, that their professional pride was intact beforehand, as that match should have been 10-0. I’ve seldom seen a match in which a team was fortunate to have only lost 6-0, but this was one of them.
