United Daily: Slow News Day

Really, nothing happened yesterday, so there is very little to report today that isn’t simply a continuance of Saturday’s debacle at White Hart Lane.  There are a couple of morsels for us, however, so here’s a quick breakdown:

That, sadly, is about all.  Hopefully something newsworthy will happen between here and tomorrow.

United Daily: Fergie’s Take

Fergie Pleased

After the match Sir Alex Ferguson had this to say about the performance:

“It could be massive. We don’t stop trying. When we’re 1-0 down we’ll throw everything at a game, we’ve always done that. All things being equal, a point’s a good point for us, bearing in mind we were 1-0 down at half-time. If we’d have got the goal earlier, we’d have won the match. I think in the last 25 minutes we’ve absolutely battered them. We’ve deserved a point, but just. In the first half I think Tottenham were the better side. They worked their socks off. Under Juande Ramos they’re on the upswing, there’s no question about that. It was a real difficult game for us. Maybe we’ve gained a point.”

Yes, it could be massive. Yes, it was a real difficult game for us. And maybe we deserved a point. While it was a good result considering our form, I can’t believe that Fergie could actually view being dominated by Tottenham so positively. To say “the last 25 minutes” is generous. We really didn’t have a legitimate scoring opportunity until the 75th minute. If we “deserved a point, but just,” imagine how Spurs must feel. If Robbie Keane hadn’t flubbed his uncontested shot from 18 yards out United would have been buried early on. And, to make matters worse for Tottenham supporters, Michael Dawson admitted after the match that HE netted our equalizer, not Tevez. Spurs created the wealth of chances and dominated the majority of the play. I had never seen so many United passes end up in uninhabited areas. Spurs harassed us up and down the pitch and made us play with an uncharacteristic sloppiness. They certainly deserved three points, and we were certainly fortunate to come away with one.

Match Review: Tottenham Hotspur 1-1 Manchester United

We certainly didn’t deserve to take a point from that contest. United were exposed for all of their weaknesses today by an inspired Tottenham Hotspur side that was truly unlucky not to win. I don’t even know where to begin with our team’s performance today, but it was not good in any aspect. I honestly believe that you need to be a part of the side to know what the cause was for today’s performance, for United was so poor in so many areas as to make you wonder if they were all out on a bender the night previous.

United Daily: Tottenham v Manchester United Match Preview, etc.

Match Preview

Didn’t I just write this article a couple days ago? Oh, we’re away this time. Well I guess that changes things enough to write another one.

Not much has changed since United defeated Tottenham 3-1 last weekend. United’s stellar form has continued. A midweek double from Cristiano Ronaldo saw United dispose of Harry Redknapp’s Portsmouth side within the games first 15 minutes. The remainder of the match was a mere formality. The Reds have now won 13 of their past 14 matches and are in the best form in England.

There are two primary reason’s for our success of late, Cristiano Ronaldo and our defense. Ronaldo’s form is in a continues state of ascension, scoring at a clip greater than a goal per game. He has had his way with defenses across the league, with it almost becoming a given that his name will find the score sheet. His performance against Portsmouth was of such repute that it still dominates the headlines today, two days later. His free-kick, a “marvelous hit that no goal keeper in the world could have saved,” according to Alex Ferguson, has served as the crown jewel of a season filled with gems.

United Daily: All Hail Cristiano Ronaldo (Scholes can play a little, too.)

…The Morning After

It’s the morning after match day and, to no one’s surprise, everyone is pleased with Cristiano Ronaldo. His thirteenth minute free-kick goal was the stuff of overnight legend and the papers sing his praises in unison today. The Portuguese winger could stand and be counted among those who were happy with his performance, stating:

“That was probably my best-ever goal. I work for this in training and I’m very pleased to score. I shoot the way I do because it is my strength.”

His goals constituted his 18th and 19th respectively, moving him three clear of Emmanuel Adebayor as the Premier League’s leading goal scorer. Alex Ferguson was among those hurling superlatives, claiming:
